Right now, John, Thomas, and I are watching Babe: Pig in the City on HBO. It's in English with Chinese subtitles. This morning, we went back to the Civil Affairs Office to complete some more paperwork and two interviews. John was worried he would flub the interviews but they were fairly short with simple questions. They asked our names, ages, occupations, whether we were voluntarily adopting Thomas and if we would not abuse him and provide him with a good home and education. Helen brought us back to the hotel and after a bit I put Thomas down for a nap. Mom stayed in the room while John and I went exploring. We finally found the grocery store and bought some drinks. We walked down one of the streets several blocks and there were lots of little shops. We stopped at Starbucks which is across the street from the hotel and got everyone coffees.
We arrived back at the hotel and I woke up Thomas. I turned on the TV and found the Chinese language children's channel. Mom held him while he had some water. Up until this time Thomas has not uttered a word except cry out when frightened. I learned that he is afraid of the dark when I closed the curtains for his nap. The night before, he was afraid of the crib the hotel provided so he slept with me and John. Then this morning, I discovered that he is afraid of the bathtub so he got a wash cloth bath. He also hasn't really played yet, today progress. After sitting with mom after his nap, he started to play with some of the toys. One is like a etch-a-sketch with magnets. He was doodling on that and clutching a small ball. Then he said a word. Hallelalujah. Then some thunder and lightening were seen through the window and he said something like wow. He has been very observant of everything so far. Also, a few smiles. First, when Helen tickled him and then this evening after getting his diaper changed.
